PERCENTAGE OF RATE ADJUSTMENT USED FOR WAGES AND BENEFITS FOR DIRECT CARE STAFF

Beginning January 1, 2023, Welfare and Institutions Code section 4519.10(c)(1) requires a provider that received a rate increase use no less than the percentage in the rate model for staff wages and benefits to enhance the wages and benefits of staff who spend at least 75 percent of their time providing direct services to consumers. The percentage of direct care staff wages and benefits varies by rate model. DDS has posted an online look up tool showing the required percentage applicable to each service here.

Notice

HIPAA Requirement for all providers

As you may know, Federal legislation known as HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) has requirements relating to the sharing of personal health information (PHI). Each Regional Center s contract with the State of California now requires that it have an agreement with each service provider that we work with that contains assurances that they will appropriately safeguard such information. It is required that this be in writing as an agreement between the parties. Contact Community Services if you have any questions. Your cooperation in this effort is appreciated!

NOTE

REMINDER - PRIOR AUTHORIZATION NEEDED FOR SERVICES TO CLIENTS

Please remember that law and regulation requires that the provider have a written authorization from the regional center in advance to be assured that payment will be made for the services. This is for the initiation of new services AND the continuation of existing services. If you as a provider are in need of an authorization and for some reason unable to reach the service coordinator for the client, you can always ask to speak with the on-duty worker or the Regional Manager who can assist you.
